It was both the grand vision of former President Sheikh Zayed bin Sulta Al Nahyan and his final resting place.

Blending influences from Mamluk, Ottoman, Fatimid and Indo-Islamic architectural styles with more contemporary ones, the mosque drew on the work of craftsmen from around the world. Not only is it the largest mosque in the country, it also claims the titles of the world’s largest mosaic, largest carpet and third largest chandelier with 11 tons of Swarovski crystals and 24-carat gold.

Fortunately for many, it is also one of the few mosques in the country that non-Muslims are allowed to enter. However, remember to observe the dress code by wearing long, loose-fitting trousers or skirts, long sleeves and a headscarf for women.
